We’re proud to showcase this recently completed wrought iron handrail installation in **Hove**—a project that perfectly combines traditional craftsmanship with modern corrosion protection.

The Brief

Our client approached us looking for a safe, durable, and visually sympathetic handrail for their brick entrance steps. The property features a sloped driveway running parallel to the staircase, so the solution needed to:

* Provide secure support for daily use
* Follow the natural gradient of the steps
* Complement the existing brickwork and exterior
* Withstand coastal conditions in Hove

Living near the sea means metalwork must be designed with longevity in mind. Salt air can significantly accelerate corrosion, so durability was a key priority from day one.

The Design

We designed a clean, classic wrought iron handrail with evenly spaced vertical balusters and a smooth continuous top rail for comfortable grip.

The minimalist aesthetic works beautifully with the traditional brick steps and raised retaining wall. The handrail mirrors the angle of the staircase while maintaining structural integrity and a balanced appearance.

Key design features:

* Solid steel construction
* Vertical infill bars for strength and safety
* Smooth ergonomic top rail
* Secure base plate fixings into brickwork
* A timeless black finish to complement the property

The result is understated, elegant, and highly practical.

Manufacture & Fabrication

Each section was fabricated in-house to ensure precision and quality control. We carefully measured the existing brickwork and step geometry to guarantee a perfect fit on installation day.

All welds were dressed smooth to create clean lines before finishing, ensuring both visual quality and optimal coating adhesion.

Zinc Redox Duplex Powder Coating System

Given the coastal location in Hove, we specified a **zinc-rich Redox duplex coating system** for maximum corrosion resistance.

This system provides two layers of protection:

1. **Zinc-rich primer layer** – Offers cathodic protection, preventing rust from forming even if the surface becomes damaged.
2. **Architectural-grade powder coat top layer** – Provides a durable, impact-resistant, and UV-stable finish.

The duplex system significantly extends the lifespan of the handrail, making it ideal for exposed exterior environments—particularly in seaside areas like Hove.

The final finish in classic black delivers a crisp, contemporary look while offering long-term durability.

Installation in Hove

Installation required careful positioning to align with both the staircase and the adjacent driveway slope. The handrail was securely anchored into the brick retaining wall and step structure using heavy-duty fixings to ensure rigidity and long-term stability.

We took care to:

* Protect surrounding brickwork during drilling
* Ensure precise alignment along the stair pitch
* Achieve a solid, wobble-free finish
* Leave the site clean and tidy

The completed installation not only enhances safety but also elevates the overall entrance aesthetic.

The Finished Result

The new wrought iron handrail provides:

* Improved accessibility and support
* Long-term corrosion resistance
* A sympathetic design that complements the property
* Peace of mind in all weather conditions

In coastal towns like Hove, investing in high-quality fabrication and finishing makes all the difference. This project is a great example of how thoughtful design and professional installation can transform a functional requirement into a refined architectural feature.
